Had the haddock and chips. Food was excellent and the service was even better. Location cannot be beat anywhere! Great experience overall with four people eating fish n chips in a historic local for a very fair price. A no brainer for anyone visiting the great city of York!

We are a 2.5 because my wife was a 3 and I was a 2. While walking through the Shambles, we decided to stop by and give Bari a try. Given that it was lunch time, they were quite busy with only one gal helping with drink orders and another man taking all orders and serving the food (possibly the owner). The servers were nice enough just not nearly enough of them for the lunch rush. We had to wait quite some time to order.
My wife had a chicken salad. She liked it but, surprisingly, there was too much meat and not enough lettuce. I had a bite of chicken and had a bone in it (part of my 2 star reasoning).
I had a pizza that was pretty good, but it had huge bubbles that hadn't been popped while in the oven so they created huge areas of just burned crust where toppings should have been. -

Really a 2.5 in my opinion - better than average but not an "A-OK", while my other half decided definitely average!
Nice family atmosphere - very busy and would have been far too cramped if all the covers had been taken up. My chair was already back to back with the empty one behind me - heaven help me if another; how will I say - generously proportioned chap, like me was placed behind me!
Very good and friendly service and we all had different mains to compare - Chorizo Risotto, Lasagne, Carbonara and I had ham pizza. Bread was brought out while waiting but the mains all arrived very quickly - aside from the pizza, pre-prepared and micro-ed was a likely occurrence perhaps? All full adult portions, so the bairns did well and all the food had original something to them but not anything to give an oomph. e. g. Like my pizza had a wee je ne sais quoi - I know - wrong lingo but can't say that it improved the taste?
Staff were great with kids and we had a good chat with the host. I would try it again but my wife was a strict no. -

We were going to Strada Cucina when our B&B host caught up with us and asked where were going. He kind of winced and said you might want to try Bari in shambles area. What a FANTASTIC choice! My gf had lasagna and I had the carbonara. It was awesome. Then we see they make zabaglione and we knew we were in the real deal. Go here, you will not regret it.

To be honest, I was quite surprised that Bari had such good ratings on Yelp, but then again I only went there once.
The location in the shambles is great and it is fun to have such original ambiances (English outside - Italian inside) next to each other. The service was quick, friendly and helpful, so no issues there. However, what struck me the most was the quality of the food, which was in no relation to the price (I guess you pay for the shambles experience anyway and since I am not a tourist, I just don't appreciate it as much).
I had pasta rigatoni with peas and tomato sauce. The peas were obviously out of a can, over cooked and everything but fresh. The sauce was runny and tasteless. The pasta was way to soft. So I think the whole dish had been reheated after sitting in the kitchen for too long and the ingredients were not good enough to make up for it.
After reading a few reviews here, I might actually go back and give it another try.
